Us Two joins us for a chat about how things have been since winning the ANTS: Next Gen competition in 2023 and what he's hoping to achieve next in his career.

DJ and producer Us Two have had a busy last few years. Since winning the ANTS: Next Gen competition in 2023, Grant Gordon has continued to build on the momentum that came with it, taking the project from its early days as a duo with his brother Craig into a solo project traveling all over Europe .

Originally from the Midlands , Grant and Craig grew up around the UK’s dance music scene, with places like Coventry and Birmingham offering plenty of opportunities to see some of the biggest names in the scene. That influence has stayed with Us Two from the beginning, both in the music and in their sets. Us Two has always had a clear focus on club-ready house music, along with a kind of energy that comes from years in the scene.

After making their debut with ANTS at Ushuaïa Ibiza , Grant has taken Us Two forward on his own, playing shows at spots like Fabric and KOKO in London, Shelter in Amsterdam, and Amnesia in Ibiza. Along the way, he has also continued to release music with labels including No Art and Metamorfosi , along with a recent remix on Chris Lake ’s Black Book Records .

To gain some added insight into his journey, Us Two joined us to chat about his releases on No Art and Metamorfosi , how things have been, and what he’s excited about coming soon. Read on for the full conversation.

Hey Us Two, thank you so much for joining us today. Let's jump right into it. You grew up in the Midlands of the UK. What was the dance-music scene like growing up?

The region has a great history with dance music, stretching all the way back to the 1990s, when the first acid-house raves really began in the UK . Growing up, I’d watch big DJs most weekends in either Coventry or Birmingham . I saw everybody from Steve Angello to Pete Tong to Carl Cox .

Us Two originally started as a duo with your brother and is now your solo project. What has that transition been like for you creatively?

The transition has been really smooth. We started developing different tastes in music, so we were no longer connecting creatively in the same way. Being on my own now, I do not have to overthink things. I can just go with what my gut and creativity are telling me to do.

For my productions, that has been amazing because I do not have to check in with anybody else to see if they approve. When I am playing in clubs, I can also take the set in whatever direction I want.

What was it like winning the ANTS: NEXT GEN competition a few years back, and how did that change things for you ?

It catapulted me onto the big stage across Europe and around the world. I signed with my agent, Dre , because of that competition, and I have not looked back since. The ANTS team is amazing, and it has been a privilege to grow with them.

You have had recent releases with No Art and Metamorfosi. What was it like working with these labels on your EPs? Are there any stories you can share?

One of the best things about working with these labels is the size of their audience and their reach. Every weekend, I get tagged in stories and posts from people playing my music all over the world. It is often at more local events rather than from big DJs, which is amazing to see.

Both Joseph Capriati and ANOTR have become friends after these releases, which is crazy because I have looked up to them for so many years.

I see your reels on social media quite often. What are your thoughts on the role that social media plays in artists' careers in the current scene? How has consistency in posting helped?

Social media is just part of the game now. There is no point fighting it. Everybody is in the same boat. Consistent posting has helped me grow so much, but I have learned that the algorithm is always changing. Just because something works one week does not mean it will work the next.

I try to learn as much as I can from how posts react and just keep showing up.

You have been DJing all around Europe this year, playing rooms including Fabric, KOKO, Shelter, Amnesia, and TRMNL Lab11. Any highlights from those shows, and anything you are particularly looking forward to?

The biggest highlight was playing on the Amnesia Terrace . I spent so many summers on that dancefloor, so getting to play there was definitely surreal.

This weekend, I am making my main room debut at [UNVRS] , which will be really cool. Then I have a few more dates with my residency at TRMNL , which is a party I love playing for.

What do you find most inspiring about the house music scene right now?

Probably watching other people grow and have their moments. There is nothing better than stumbling across some music and then suddenly seeing that same artist getting support from loads of other people. It is a great buzz.

Finally, is there anything you can tell us about new shows or releases coming soon?

I’m working on my US visa so I’m hoping to be over very soon! Music-wise, I’ve got a lot of cool releases on the way. Thanks for having me; see you soon.
