Playing a nearly two-hour set, RÜFÜS DU SOL united fans through their heartfelt, dreamy soundscapes for a historic night in San Diego.

Those who have caught a set from Australian trio RÜFÜS DU SOL truly know how special their performances are. Combining live instruments with atmospheric, feel-good beats, infused with lead singer Tyrone Lindqvist ’s vocals, results in dreamy soundscapes best suited for large outdoor venues or festival settings.

When I first saw that the band was taking over San Diego’s world-class Petco Park for their Inhale / Exhale World Tour , building off their 2024 album of the same name, I knew I had to attend this highly sought-after show right in my hometown. This city also holds a personal note for the trio; while the group formed in Sydney, Australia, Lindqvist now lives in Encinitas in North County San Diego.

RÜFÜS DU SOL also quickly became the first dance/electronic act to headline Petco Park at full capacity.

The event sold out in mere hours; tickets on the resale market were a hot and pricy commodity, with floor tickets reaching upward of $1,000. For those who managed to secure a ticket, it was set to be one very remarkable evening in San Diego. With Petco Park as the most exceptional outdoor stadium to see the trio live, fans were sure to be treated to added production without the limitations of being in an indoor venue.

Anticipation gnawed at me as I entered the venue with my friends, hearing the opening sounds of Ben Böhmer taking us into the evening with his live performance.

Ben Böhmer 's melodic rhythms were the perfect complement to the headliner, with many fans swaying along as they made their way to their seats. Concessions were plentiful throughout Petco Park, with opportunities to grab drinks or food around every corner. The same goes for Padres games held here as well, which I’m no stranger to, so I knew my way around.

I did hear that other attendees who arrived later waited in lengthy lines around the venue, whether it was to get in, get food or drinks, use the restroom, or even get onto the floor section. Arriving as early as possible helps avoid most of these complications. The issue with waiting to get onto the floor, though, is one that’s plagued Petco Park at multiple events, like PROPER NYE/NYD , as capacity seemingly keeps increasing. While PROPER helped resolve this at their most recent edition, it seems like the venue hasn’t fully figured out how to fix this for other events.

When the group’s members finally made their way onstage, the entirety of Petco Park roared with excitement, coming to life at an energetic high for the following two hours.

Weaving through tracks from Inhale / Exhale and all the main staples of their discography, their set appeared seamless and extremely well put together. From fan favorites like “ Sundream ,” “ Until the Sun Needs to Rise ,” and “ New Sky ,” to more recent releases like “ On My Knees ” and “ Pressure ,” everyone was up on their feet singing along for the entire show.

Plus, any seat in the stadium, provided it wasn’t listed as “obstructed view,” was a great place to see the show. Whether you were on the floor in the middle of the action or seated around the venue, Petco Park’s top-tier production and high-fidelity audio allowed for the utmost concert experience.

RÜFÜS DU SOL’s setup was minimal but highly effective, with rapid, crisp visuals of the group playing illuminating their massive LED screens.

The visuals alone kicked the performance up to another level. Unofficially dubbed the fourth member of RÜFÜS DU SOL, the trio’s camerawoman, Leah Barylsky , enhanced the evening by providing real-time shots of them playing on stage. She constantly ran between each member with her rig to capture fluid, up-close images of them playing, drawing attention throughout the tour for her cinematic work. She truly deserves her own round of applause.

Beyond the visuals, fans were blessed with a slew of lasers, confetti, and, thankfully, fireworks. Not every venue on the tour could accommodate this thrilling show in the sky, so this was a real treat — and, of course, it came during the peak emotional moment of the show.

Hearing RÜFÜS DU SOL's most famous song, “Innerbloom,” played in its entirety with a subsequent fireworks show was the climax of the night.

As phones lit up, gleaming across the stadium, Lindqvist’s soothing vocals carried us through the track. Attendees held each other, singing at the top of their lungs, “ If you want me, if you need me, I’m yours .” My friends and I embraced as a mesmerizing fireworks show transformed the night. It was a moment I’ll carry with me for a while, one that I’ll constantly replay in my mind.

RÜFÜS DU SOL left the stage and shortly returned for a three-song encore, playing additional standouts like 2018’s “ No Place ” and 2024’s “ Music is Better ” before thanking Petco Park and their devoted fans one final time. With their songs still dancing in my head and a smile spread across my face, I quickly made a mental note to always remember this show as one of my favorite dance music performances I’ve seen.

There’s always a certain magic to seeing RÜFÜS DU SOL live, and their recent San Diego show took it to a whole new level.

This tour shows best in an outdoor stadium, and nothing else could have been better than at the best ballpark in America. With the show acting as a homecoming for the group as well, there was an added layer of charm when they shouted out North County, my own hometown as well.

RÜFÜS DU SOL did confirm that they’ll be working on new music after this tour, and I can’t wait to see what they’ll concoct next. Before they likely take some time off after this North Am
