It’s rare that a nightclub has the kind of lasting power that it can reflect on its own history and that of dance music as a whole in the same breath. Even less so when said nightclub has managed to retain so many of the core principles that it was founded upon.

Here at  Mixmag , we know a little something about heritage . In the constant evolution of the music, spaces and community that make up global dance music, sometimes there is a need to revisit the energy that helped create it, so we can take a little piece of it with us as we go forward into the unknown.

DJ Alfredo, 1985

A rare insight into the mastery of the father of Balearic Beat. It opens with a typical curveball in the form of Howard Jones’ ‘Look Mama’, before blistering through the Eurythmics, Anne Clark, Mandingo, and more through this recording’s hour-long expanse. History In audio.

Laurent Garnier, June 2000

Recording his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix live from Amnesia in the year 2000, the legendary French spin master servers up tracks from Bushwhacka!, Slam and Metro Dance Club.

Richie Hawtin, June 2001

A defining moment from Ibiza’s techno golden era, the Plastikman himself dishes out a relentless and riotous array of percussion across this two-hour recording.

DJ Rush & Toni Rios

Just a month later, still within the soaring heights of Ibiza’s techno revolution, Chicago legend DJ Rush performed b2b with German speed king Toni Rios, and predictably, history was made.

Tiësto, Cream, August 2002

The trance icon at the very pinnacle of his powers, dishing out spine-tingling melodies and synth-laden atmosphere during his high-impact mix at the legendary Cream.

Ricardo Villalobos b2b Luciano, Cocoon Closing Party 2008

Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano’s legendary b2bs have come to define the esoteric Amnesia atmosphere – and this hypnotic, ground-shaking four-hour set will be remembered as one of the best.

Annie Mac, TONIGHT, 2011

The then-babyfaced Irish DJ and broadcaster showcased exactly what has kept Amnesia an enduring Ibiza institution in this 2011 set, via rowdy bangers and high-energy breakdowns.

Papa Sven shared the decks with his regular b2b partner Luciano in July 2014 and memories were made. Rapturous hats, frenzied screams from the crowd... It’s got it all.

Sonja Moonear, Cocoon, September 2015

Name us a better pairing than Sonja Moonear and Amnesia. Dishing out latent chug, hypnotising loops and fiery bass, the Swiss minimal dynamo’s Cocoon closing party set is unforgettable.

Having been drawn in by a clip of Maceo Plex playing his ‘Opus’ remix in 2015, Four Tet made his own debut at Amnesia, taking the crowd into new territory with his UKG, dubstep and pop edit-heavy set.
